When Shopping

Before deciding what to buy, check if the label clearly states that the product is made by an Australian OWNED company. Ausbuy hopes to encourage companies to state clearly on their packaging, their Aussie-owned status.

This makes it easier for shoppers to support these businesses. Look for the Ausbuy logo to ensure if it is OWNED by Australians.

Reading Labels

Here are a few hints to help you decipher the most common labelling claims.

‘Australian Made’

This means the product was “substantially transformed” in Australia and that more than 50% of the total cost of the product took place in Australia. However all the raw ingredients / components could be imported but the final product was manufactured here.

‘Product of Australia’

This means the final product was manufactured here and ALL the raw ingredients / components were sourced in Australia.

‘Australian Owned’

To state that you are an Australian owned, the company must be more than 50% Australian owned.

‘Made from Imported and Local Products’

This means that 50% of the ingredients are Australian but that the final product is not necessarily made in Australia.
